Parts of Kansas City woke up under water this morning — literally.
After an unprecedented downpour, certain areas of the city received more than
10 inches of rain in just 12 hours, triggering what
meteorologists are calling a “once-in-500-year” flood event.

Floodwaters surged through homes, overtook vehicles, and submerged streets
throughout the night. Emergency responders worked around the clock to rescue
stranded residents as raging currents tore through neighborhoods with
terrifying force.

Locals shared dramatic videos on social media showing cars floating down the
street, homes flooded up to the windows, and terrified families seeking
shelter on rooftops.

“I’ve lived here 40 years and have never seen anything like this,”
one resident said. “This isn’t just a storm. It’s history.”

Officials have declared a state of emergency and warned residents to stay off
roads and avoid flood zones. Many are questioning the city’s preparedness,
with drainage systems reportedly overwhelmed and warnings coming too late for
some.
