ELDERLY COUPLE MURDERED IN HORROR HOUSE FIRE — COMMUNITY SHATTERED

A beloved elderly couple tragically lost their lives after a suspected arson attack engulfed their home in St Helens, Merseyside on July 15, 2025. Eric Greener and Sheila Jackson, known fondly as “our Queen and King” by their family, passed away in hospital after days in intensive care.

The blaze was deliberately set using an accelerant, authorities confirmed. Merseyside Police have arrested two suspects: a 46-year-old man from Fazakerley and a 31-year-old from St Helens. Investigations remain ongoing.

“They Were the Life of the Party”

Eric and Sheila were much more than victims — they were deeply embedded in their community. Described by neighbors as warm, cheerful, and sociable, the couple were well-known for their love of karaoke and caravan getaways.

“They were good people,” said neighbor Gavin Thelwell. “Eric would walk down to the pub with his frame and stop halfway for a breather. Always had a smile.”

In a statement, their devastated family said:

“They will forever be devastatingly missed but eternally loved by their family, friends and the community.”

Community Leaders Respond

Marie Rimmer, MP for St Helens South and Whiston, shared her condolences, calling the pair “treasured locally” and recalling fond memories of Sheila from childhood. She added:

“This is extremely saddening and concerning news. I pray that they now rest peacefully.”

Police Appeal for Information

Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson urged the public to come forward:

“We continue to ask the public to come forward with any information, either directly to Merseyside Police or anonymously via Crimestoppers. No detail is too small.”

Authorities are focused on bringing justice to the grieving family and ensuring the community remains safe. Officers believe further witnesses may hold key details.

If you saw anything suspicious on or around South John Street near the time of the fire, please contact Crimestoppers or Merseyside Police.
