Two Chinese nationals — Yuance Chen and Liren Lai — have been arrested on U.S. soil and charged with espionage, in a case that is shaking up national security circles across the country.
According to the DOJ, the men were secretly acting on behalf of China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS), gathering intelligence on U.S. Navy personnel and attempting to recruit active-duty members into the Chinese spy network.
Even more disturbing: they orchestrated “dead drop” cash payments and collected classified details on military bases while posing as everyday civilians — one even entered on a tourist visa.
FBI agents apprehended Chen in Happy Valley, Oregon, and Lai in Houston, Texas, working closely with NCIS. The bust follows months of surveillance.
“This is part of the Chinese Communist Party’s broader effort to infiltrate and undermine our institutions,” said FBI Director Kash Patel.
The full extent of what they were doing… and who else they may have recruited… is still under investigation.
This story is developing — and it’s not just about two spies. It’s about the war being waged on American soil in silence.
