Family discovers cenote beneath their home and rejects million-dollar offer

FAMILY DOESN’T WANT A MILLION DOLLARS, THEY DO NOT WANT TO SELL THEIR HOUSE WHICH IS OVER A RECENTLY DISCOVERED CENOTE

A family from the town of

Sotuta , in the state of  Yucatán , has become the center of attention after a  cenote was discovered  on their property while carrying out construction work for a septic tank. The discovery, which has sparked widespread interest, led the family to receive multiple purchase offers, including a tempting $1 million offer from foreign buyers. However, despite the amount of money offered, the owners have rejected all proposals, opting to keep their land.

The story of how this cenote was discovered was widely shared on social media thanks to the TikToker known as  “Hecho en la Granja ,” who visited the family to document the story. In one of his videos, the content creator explained that the cenote was discovered accidentally while the family was excavating in their backyard. What began as a routine task transformed into an unexpected event that captured the attention of curious onlookers and potential buyers.

From the moment the news of the discovery became public, the family began receiving financial offers seeking to acquire the property. The most surprising was a group of foreigners who offered one  million dollars , equivalent to approximately  19 million Mexican pesos . Despite the overwhelming price, the family made the firm decision not to sell their house, prioritizing the emotional and personal value their home represents to them.

In an interview conducted by the TikToker himself, the family members shared their perspective and explained why they decided to reject the multimillion-dollar offer. Despite multiple recommendations from friends and acquaintances, who suggested they take the opportunity to move to a larger or perhaps safer home, they decided to stay put. Their attachment to the land and the place where they’ve lived for years outweighed any financial incentives offered.

However, the discovery of the cenote has not been entirely positive for the family, as it has also raised certain concerns. One of the greatest fears they face is the  instability of the ground , which could pose a risk of  collapse  in the future. The possibility of the ground giving way is a constant concern, although so far there have been no signs of imminent danger. Despite this risk, the family remains steadfast in their stance of not abandoning their home.

The cenote, a natural wonder characteristic of the  Yucatán Peninsula , has attracted the attention of both locals and foreigners. In this region, cenotes have historically been valued not only as impressive geological formations but also as sites of cultural and spiritual significance. Many of these underground bodies of water hold profound significance for local communities, which may have been an additional factor in the family’s decision to maintain their property.

This family’s story has sparked debate and commentary on social media, with users expressing diverse opinions about their decision not to sell. Some have praised their loyalty to their roots and their land, while others believe that passing up an offer of such magnitude is a mistake, especially considering the risks the cenote could pose to the stability of the land. However, most agree that every person has the right to decide what to do with their home and property.
