An unnamed boss allegedly “sat on her” during a workplace altercation, resulting in the tragic death of a 7-Eleven employee.
On June 24, 24-year-old Jessica McLaughlin went to work at 7-Eleven anticipating a typical day, but she was allegedly attacked by a female manager at the Californian establishment.
According to Jessica’s relatives, the manager allegedly sat down on her body with her entire weight and pulled her hair.
“She held her down, sat on top of her, and didn’t let her breathe,” Sean McLaughlin, Jessica’s brother, claimed on a GoFundMe page.
Sean went on: “While some coworkers tried to help and stop it, they were attacked too. When she finally got free, she collapsed. She wasn’t breathing.”
Sean further mentioned that the manager, who wished to remain anonymous, ‘went to the back room to try and remove the security tape’ while Jessica was receiving CPR from several of her coworkers. She then allegedly rode off on a bike, according to the family.
On Wednesday, July 2, Jessica passed away after being removed from life support.
Sean continued: “She has been kept alive on machines for the past couple of days. For all of these days, her mom Jasmine, her dad Clancey, our brother Anthony, step dad Albert, faithful boyfriend Adrian, sister Linda and I — along with so many friends and family — stayed by her side, hoping, praying for some kind of miracle.”
“But the damage from the lack of oxygen was too much. Her brain had stopped functioning. After getting second opinions and doing everything we could, we have to make the impossible decision to let her go.”
The Los Angeles Police Department acknowledged that they were sent to the Hollywood store and that when they got there, they discovered Jessica unconscious on the floor.
“Preliminary information indicated that two women became involved in a verbal dispute inside the business that escalated into a physical confrontation,” the LAPD said in a release.
“Investigators have obtained video evidence of the incident but are not releasing it at this time.”
After Jessica’s death this week, authorities are starting a homicide investigation, according to CBS News.
7-Eleven also shared a statement following the incident, telling UNILAD: “Our hearts are with those impacted during this difficult time. The suspect has been terminated, and we continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement in their investigation.”
